Need Tires Soon for Taurus

Hi!

My wife was told at her last oil change at the dealer that we would soon need new tires. The other ones only have 20,000 + miles on them, but have been HORRIBLE winter tires. This vehicle needs to get through quite a bit of Wintery junk on a daily basis, with about 50 miles put on each day, but I don't want to have to spend a huge amt. of money on the tires, due to the fact it has 110,000 miles on it. It is a 2006 SEL model. Current tires are ok on wet surfaces, but are like racing slicks in the snow, despite a mud and snow rating on them. Depressing to have to think about Winter driving coming up, but....

As usual, any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Goodyear Assurance Tripple Treads or Comfort Treads are a great tire. I had them both on the van and was very happy with them. Goodyear has a $120 mail in rebate on them when you put them on a goodyear credit card. You just missed a buy three get one free (up to $100) tire offer at the paramount goodyears!

Tiger Paws would be another option. I have had them on my old buick and currently have them on my Saturn. Good traction in the snow and so far the wear has been really good.

Both my wife and I have been extremely happy with the Cooper CS4's on her car along with my brother on his Subaru. I don't have brand loyalty to any one tire. This was the first time I had cooper tires on a vehicle and I must say I have been impressed by them.

My parents have the Goodyear Assurance Comfortreds on their Ford Freestyle and they didn't have any complaints about the tires, but I believe they are going to be looking to replace their tires this fall with possibly the CS4's also.

They tend to be a bit pricier, but probably the last tire you'll need to buy for that car. They tend to have sales/rebates throughout the year also like goodyear and the others.

Thanks guys!

I thought I remembered you, Jeremy, posting something about those Goodyear tires awhile back and that they had been good tires. I had 2 sets of Tiger Paws on my now retired Impala and they were excellent, long wearing tires with good traction. Haven't had any Cooper tires for years, but might look at those also. Thanks for your input. Do any of the HSO sponsors carry Tiger Paws? Just wondering, since I don't see them advertised much. Bought my last ones through the GM Dealer when they had a great price on them.

Hi!

Just noticed that the big MFF store is having a sale on the Cooper tires you mentioned. Question: There is one that is T rated and one that is H V rated. There is only a $5.00 difference in them, but does the tread design differ so that one might have and edge over the other one in snow and slush? They both look like good tires.

Hi! Just an update on the tire quest. Bought a set of 4 Cooper Cs4's last Sat. So far, they are fine, BUT, the test will come with the first load of that dreaded white stuff We'll see. Thanks again for everyone's input.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
