My favorite headlamp

Add me to the list of the ones that got one that did not work. Ordered from Amazon got it today. Put in the batteries and nothing. Tried different batteries nothing. Put the ones that came with it back in, got it to turn on. Then I couldn't get it to turn off. Back to Amazon it goes. It was nice and bright when it was working though so I am getting another one.

Got my new one today and what a difference! It works great. Can't wait to try it out coming out of the woods bowhunting this week and using it for ice fishing this winter.

i'm in the market for a new one. i have 2 of the exact energizer ones that you've got. its annoying having to click through the different brightnesses and settings. just give me light. on/off. will check this out.

Yes, I love the simple On/Off switch.   Not a fan of the multiple settings you have to cycle through to get standard light.  Red, blue, green, disco, morse code, high, low, med..etc.

Does anyone have any issues with comfort?

I own this and the battery pack just feels uncomfortable on the back side of the head!

One thing I wondered about is, do you really save power by Dimming the light? I will do a test and find out to see how long the light lasts in HIGH / LOW mode because I want to know if we see zero run time gains in LOW mode then I would be less prone to running in low mode if ever.

Oh yeah, the power consumption curve is huge.  On full power you will only get about 5 hours of runtime on your batteries.  On the lowest setting,  you will get about 63 hours.   So depending on where you have the adjustment at it will make a big difference. 

 

I have to say though that I’m not sure how accurate the adjustment lever is.  I see a lot more difference going from low to the middle than I do from the middle to the highest.    Your mileage may vary.

 

As far as comfort, I always wear a ball cap so I never really notice the battery pack on my head.

1% to 50% is 50 times brighter. 50% to 100% is only 2 times brighter. And that is how your eye perceives brightness changes. Ear works the same way with loudness of sound. We perceive a relative change. (logarithmic response)

Big fan of the Zebralight. Pretty sure you turned me on to this product Dtro.

These things are bombproof.

I own a Nuisance Wildlife Control company, and I am in attic and crawlspaces quite frequently. I can't afford for products to fail on me.

Zebralight never has.

I have had many headlamps, both inexpensive and expensive, and these have held up the best.

One of the features that has failed on other headlamps for me is the pivot point for the lamp. In most cases it's a small screw inserted through thin plastic holes. If the plastic breaks in this area (as it has in my experience) the lamp is pretty much usless.

The Zebralight has an aluminum housing and fits on the headlamp "strap" via a rubber gasket. To adjust the angle of the light you simply spin the lamp in the gasket. Brilliant! An extra gasket is included with the lamp.

There are different models of Zebralight headlamps (flood/spot/Li-ion/AA) to choose from, and some of them are extremely bright. I use the one that houses one AA battery as I prefer to have all (or most) of my electronics utilizing AA's. It keeps in simple in terms of batteries that I need to have along on any given occasion.

The only negative I can see in regards to the Zebralight is that it only houses one AA battery. I actually like this, as it keeps the unit small and compact, but necessarily it won't have the lamp life of some other units. Still, it lasts longer than you would think, and does have three different settings, and so you can increase the life if you use the lower settings for close up work.

Quick story: I was on the MN River this summer with the FishinLogician and our spotlight crapped out on us. The Zebralight performed wonderfully in shining our way to and from the ramp.

Final Note: The soon-to-be-released Zebralight H600MkII (Rechargeable Li-on) puts out 1020lumens on high for up to 2 hours! Crazy!

LED Lenser has released a new version of this H7. Its called the H7.2 and some of the improved features look really nice. The one I especially like is the transport mode. This locks the on/off button so it cannot be accidentally bumped and turned on. I seen it briefly at the Sportshow this weekend. It looks really nice!

LOL. What exactly is the purpose of the "flash mode," anyways? For help being found when lost??

I know this is a older topic but I finally ordered a H7R and I dont feel lever in the back is working quite right to adjust the lumen out put. Doesnt seem to me that it adjusts it as far down as it should be and I am pretty much on full power no matter where the lever is at

Anyone else have problems with this?
