Dog proof grass seed??????

I'm looking for recommendations for a grass seed that can resist a 70 lb dog. Its not from the pee but from her running around. The area is shaded most of the day and is a high traffic area. Is there such a seed!

the only thing i can think of is astroturf. i have 2 110 lb labs and my yard is gone even after sodding and hydromulch. i gave up. i will put in grass if i decide to ever move.

That's what I was thinking but the wife wants the grass back. I told her its a loosing endeavor but she wants to try something. I suggested a larger garage in that area but it didn't fly with her

A good atheletic turf blend would be your best bet. However to hold up to traffic like that, it will need plenty of sun, water, aeration and fertilizer (3 or 4 applications a year). You would also want keep traffic off it while it establishes.

The area gets very little sun, not much I can do short of cutting the trees down. That isn't an option because of all the shade they provide for the house. I will look for an athletic type as suggested.

Athletic seed won't work.

You need sun, water and food for grass. Without all 3, don't waste your time.

You can get by with two if the grass is never touched.

When was the last time you saw athletic fields completely shaded?

Good point about athletic seed! I found that Scotts makes a high traffic seed but I can't find it in any stores. I may just have to order it online.

in general most grass types that will do well in shade will struggle with high traffic. speciality turf out of albany has good grass seed and better customer service with questions regarding their products than most, if u live in central mn they are worth a call. good luck

High traffic seed still needs sun. I know of a couple of sod farms around the north metro that sell shade sod, but again, you can't have large dogs or kids playing on it.

Personally, I would landscape the area. Put mulch in, some nice bushes around the edges, dress it up a little.
