Flatheads

Yes, and the fishing can be just as good as at night.

Personally I prefer the cooler temps, less boat traffic, and all the other good stuff that night time brings.

Do a Google search for "Breaking the Rules for Catfish" its an In Fish article about a local guy (Dean Opatz) that fishes the MN and has figured out the daytime bite.

Yes I do, depends on the time of year post, pre spawn and such ,but In the summer months I try and search the brush piles, log jams, anything that will shade the water, Shade from trees over a deep hole can produce big time and if their is brush or logs in it even better.

Fast water into a deep hole is also a place I will spend some daylight hours searching for flats.

Don't forget to read the shore line steep banks are typically a sign of deeper water also.

A curve with a steep outside bank can be a sign of good things too. I will look at both ends of the curve and try and fish the break as it enters the curve and as it exits.

There are so many places to search when you find one pay attention to the structure around you and try and match it to different places on the rest of the river.

Good luck

I have caught a number of flats during the day also. Gordie posted some great methods. Just like anything trial and error helps you. Sometimes I find that flatheads can be anywhere at any given time 4' in the afternoon and 20' at night vis versa. Time on the water will put monsters in everyone's net!

After so many years of fishing, you can pretty much just glance over at a spot, and be able to tell if it looks fishy or not. I have caught big fish, on a straight away, mid day, fishing 4 feet of water. SOme places just look fishy, so I will give it 20 minutes or so. Even if they arent your typical spots. On average, I fish new spots over half the time that I fish normal spots. Trial and error
