858 di transducer mounting problem.

slick2526

Question

I have a bird a 858hd di. I mounted the factory transducer in the location it should be on. The transducer itself stays set in the position it should be in but the quick release/break free part of the mount always seems to un-snap for no reason.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any way to fix this besides glueing/screwing the mount down permanently?

Does this happen at high speed? How fast? Is it set too low in the water? Is it hitting the bunk or roller when loading on the trailer? If it's this transducer, looks like you can tighten the pivot bolt.

My first mount always poppped up too, so I used the set screw to lock it in place. That worked fine until I got a tubing rope wrapped around it and broke it off.

The 2nd mount that I ordered from Humminbird snapped down much better and I've had no need for the set screw.

See if you can push it harder to get it to snap in tight.

If the quick-release bracket is snapping out of the mount it is probably because you torqued or twisted the plastic mount when you screwed it to your transom. The screws might be too tight, or might not be lined up perfectly straight with the mounting bracket. A slight twist to that plastic bracket is enough to have the transducer break free too easily.
