Towing a Lund Rebel with a Nissan Murano

We just purchased a Nissan Murano and I am wondering if I need to pull in drive or can I use overdive?

always use drive. even if it feels good in overdrive it will be constantly shifting in and out and over time cause problems. costly ones.

Older Lund Rebel (semi-V) or newer Rebel XL (2008+)? If the older style, it will be lighter with a smaller outboard, lighter trailer, etc. Then you should be fine to tow in overdrive I would think. Max weight should be well under 1500 lbs.

If the Rebel XL, you will probably be closer to 2000 lbs with boat, motor, trailer, fuel, gear etc. Then I would pull it out of overdrive if it starts hunting for gears at all on slopes/hills. This will kill your mileage but save your tranny. Also strongly consider adding a transmission cooler if your Murano does not currently have one.

Does your Murano have an actual automatic transmission? I know that some of them had a infinately variable transmission and where probably not designed to pull more than te weight of the vehicle.

My buddy pulls a 17.5 ft aluminum bass boat with his Murano. It does have the CVT transmission and pulls fine. Does the CVT even have overdrive? I'm pretty sure if it does that he has never taken it out of OD and he has never had any issues either.

Nissan's HSOforum for the 2013 Murano states that the towing capacity is 3500 lbs with a properly equipped vehicle. I do not believe there is OD on a CVT transmission.

I think you need a few miles on it before towing though. Not sure about that, but I would check.

The Murano is preowned with 23,000 miles. I tow the boat now with my 2011 Imapala and it tows great. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with the Murano's. The guy at the Nissan service just told me to take it out of OD which I do with the car.
