Red Polls Dying

Hundreds have been here this year. String to have them dead around the yard. Maybe 8 over the last 2 weeks. 2 today and this sick one that can't fly. Any ideas?

When I have had that problem I stop feeding and sanitize my feeders. It may or may not be your feeders, but where sick birds gather more get sick. Once they have moved on, then the feeders go back out. I don't know if that has helped, but I feel better when they aren't wasting away in my yard.

Yep. Many times salmonella is the cause and a sanitizing of feeders is the answer. I try to sanitize mine every couple of weeks.

never have cleaned a feeder with seeds in it. been feeding the birds here for 22 years. why just the redpolls and nothing else I wonder? I was thinking maybe just week ones that were left since there were hundreds here. strange, that's for sure.

haven't seen a red poll for 4 days. left the feeders alone. Saw this one at the neighbors. It could barely fly. It hopped on my finger a couple times then I just let it be.

I have a lot of them fly into my windows. They get pretty dazed and seem to be the only ones that knock themselves silly. I pick them up and move them to the tree so my dogs don't get them. A few minutes later they aren't in the tree so I figure they could fly again. A few will hit the window and fly off again.

We have quite a lot of them.
