I would guess and say there is plenty of ice atleast 20" yet. Last I heard it was getting pretty soft though. That area just got hammered with another snow storm so there is probably a good amount of snow/slush I dont see the temps rising in the forecast.

Best bet would be to call sporstmans cove is webster prior to hitting the road and coming that way.

That's the lake I will be on on the 26th. I wanted to check out Enemy Swim but my buddies farm is right on Waubay so the access is pretty nice.

Well I am glad to here people are riding their wheelers out there. I am a little hesitant about lakes that I have never been ice fishing on before.

we have over 2 ft of ice yet with slush/snow on top but by the 26th I would be real hesitant to travel on it. It is getting weaker and we actually show signs of a slow warming coming in near future. I would keep calling doug at sportsman..he'll tell you what is going on. My bet by then is that i'll be shore fishing...I hope!!

Yeah, even if there is still enough ice, it is going to be pretty messy on top and really hard to get around...and with forecast highs around 70 degrees on Friday and Saturday, whatever ice is left is going to deteriorate quickly...

We typically fish from shore so that would be great if things are melting away. We are up there from 26th to May 6th. My fear is that we wont be able to do any fishing because there is to much ice or not enough.

It's going to be a long week of shooting and riding wheelers. I only have so much ammo frown

Thats tough, probably hitting the transition time. If you dont mind a little driving, Thompson by De Smet South Dakota is close to open, along with a few other lakes in the arlington area, not sure about further north near watertown but they may be an option. Otherwise a trip out to the Missouri may be worth your time as well. Should also throw the James River in there as well. Some decent walleye an pike to be had in the Jim.

Had a great week of ice fishing! My buddy and I easily got our limit on Walleye.

All I have to say is that the people in MN need to learn to put fish back. I have never seen a blue gill the size my buddies dad got. It took up over half of a 5 gallon buckets width! It was pretty sweet! I won't say what lake but it sounds like this can be a common experience in SD.

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
