Have you tried tilting the motor up, removing the drain plug, then inserting a tight fitting hose (2-3 feet long) into the drain hole then tilting the motor down. It should all drain out and make almost no mess.

No, I haven't tried anything yet. I run a 250 Merc Verado and the Verado Owners Club recommends to use an oil extractor to keep the mess down to a minimum. I also have a 9.9 Pro kicker. From what I read an extractor is prefered there too.

So that brings me to the question, is one any better than any other? I see Cabelas has one, does anyone own that one?

Sorry just trying to save you some money. I've used hand oil extraction pumps and they seem to make more of a mess and it just another thing to break.

Go to YouTube and type in "Mercury Verado Oil Change" by walleyeworkshop. I didn't realize they have made it so easy now. He doesn't use a pump and doesn't seem to make a bit of a mess.

We have used a Pela 6000 for 5+ years,or since about when we got our 02 Crestliner/115 yamaha(2005?).I see they went up in price as we paid about $50 & now they want $60.We have found it to work good for our & mom's walking mowers, snowblowers as well.It works fine for anything that doen't have a drain plug or one that is hard to get at.

One of the little pumps that is operated by an electric drill works just fine and costs about $10.
How much

How much gets left behind that the pump wont suck ? Just wondering if it is better to drain or pump or if it is not significant enough to matter
