bassNspear
I know that Honda 2000 and 3000 are the newest and greatest but I'm not sure I can spend 1000-1500 on oneI found a Yamaha 2800. Anyone have any experience with these or any Yamaha. It's only 400.00. Just wondering your thoughts??Thanks BNS
highlife4me
That size is a lot bigger than you need for a fish house but if you are going to use it for running a camper with an AC in the summer it is good for that. The 2800 is quite a bit louder than a 2000 and uses a lot of gas too - about 3 gallons in 12 hours where a 2000 will use about a gallon. If you are going to just use it on the ice I would stick with a 2000, either Yamaha or Honda. They are quite and very fuel efficient. Try to find a used one if you don't want to buy new. bassNspear
What about champion 3500 from cabelas?
highlife4me
I would stay away from Champion. They are not bad but very loud. About the same the 2800 Yamaha plus it is a nightmare to get parts for them when they break. If I were you I would just get a 2000 Honda or Yamaha. You won't regret it. They do cost more but they are worth it.

HOGEYE
My uncle has a Honeywell that is no louder than my Honda and he came in at a fraction of the cost. I think the 1600 can be had for less than $400.
Fishalittle
Don't go cheap on the generator....just sayin. You spent how much on a new ice castle....don't wreck the experience with a cheapo problem/noisy generator. Start with a Honda 2000 and then if you find you need to run AC in summer add another to get your 4000 watts.
i'majigger
If anyone is interested I have a Honda 2000EU for sale. It has been used about 20 hours. I bought it new in November 2012 for a wheel house but sold the house and have no need for the generator now. I want $850.00 for it.
AlligatorDundee
Spend a little more upfront. FOR A 2000 watt Yamaha with gas gauge. You will pay more later with a gas guzzler. Believe me on this one.Paid $ 895 from a dealership. BEST TOOL I HAVE PURCHASED IN A WHILE. I RAN MINE 37 DAYS AND NIGHTS STRAIGHT NONSTOP ON ICE. EVERYONE COMMENTS HOW QUIET IT IS EVEN PEOPLE WHO OWN THE HONDA 2000 WATT.

wally diver
Aren't you suppose to change the oil like every 100 hours?
morepower02
looks to me like I should be buying a Honda huh! I am a fan of the 3000 Honda. The electric start is a nice feature and it is very quite compared to lesser priced brands. Nothing worse than being on the ice and having to hear the roar of a cheap generator. BLACKJACK
Sometime in the next few months I'm going to buy a generator for my ice Castle (and other uses) and its going to be a Yamaha EF2000. Search online, I found one for $989 with free shipping. Don't know what some of the cheaper models cost but since you've already popped $10,000 for the ice castle, buy a good generator. Read some of the reviews, Honda's are very good but people that have had both like the Yamaha better. One review I found online:"I mean don't get me wrong the Honda is great. But the Yamaha seems a little quieter, better on gas and lighter than the Honda, and not to mention cheaper. It even had a gas gauge which the Honda doesn't have, and it comes with a spark plug wrench and 12v battery charger cables which doesn't come... more"
AlligatorDundee
looks to me like I should be buying a Honda huh! I would not purchase anything that does not have 2000 WATTS AND SAYS HONDA OR YAMAHA ON IT.
bassNspear
just found a Honda for 850 brand new. looks like I bought a Honda.thanks all for the insight.
Hawg
Thats a super deal, where did you get it? Fleet is close because they always have the deal where they give you a $50 gift card with one. I think thats because they are a fair trade product that dictates price. Unlike most stores, a Fleet gift card is A-OK.

Fishalittle
Ya 10,000 dont buy you much of an ice castle these days....price seems to be climbing rapidly....but so have the features I guess. I am shopping now and having a hard time deciding between a hydraulic 16 or a winch 20'. Darn near the same money...Sure do like the new galvanized frame though....anyone else seen it yet? grapeapplepie
I purchased the "smarter tools" 2000W generator/inverter. It has the Yamaha MZ80 engine in it at Costko for $600. It's fairly new for me, but I've been happy with it so far.
thefarmer
I always go out with my 15 year old BIL. When its time to go we each walk over to a side and crank it up. Takes a minute, hydraulic would be nice but for the same money I would take a bigger house everytime. Maybe if you fished alone but then a guy probably wouldn't need a 20 footer either! That being said I have never cranked a 20 footer up.Would like to see that frame. Mine is coated but some of the rhino lining is already coming off on the fender mount. Maybe should have waited a year.
