2.0 cable

I think 2.0 is the technology in your PC not the cable.

When it comes to USB you have 3 sizes.

Standard USB

Mini USB

Micro USB

Marcum uses a Mini USB, and most newer phones use Micro USB so they won't physically fit in the port.

I think you are confusing the size adapter with USB software revision which is now up to 3.0 I believe.

You will need a mini USB cable which is about $2 at Walmart.

System requirements – PC only computer with 2.0 USB port and a 2.0 USB cable. Do not attempt upgrade without 2.0 port or cable.

Save the LX6main.bin file from the MarCum HSOforum to your desktop (do not change the file name or extension).

Yes, I understand that but if youread farther yousee where the computer must also recognise the lx. What I'm running into is that it's not recognising it. That's why I'm wondering if anyone has done this with aMac

If you can tell me the difference between a 1.1 and 2.0 cable by looking at it I would like to know.

They DO certify 2.0 cables as 2.0 compliant, but that is because it requires faster data transfer and might have better shielding internally. Other than that, they are physically identical.

I truly think any USB cable you have laying around that is the correct dimensions (Mini) and you have a 2.0 port on your PC, it will work fine.

All USB cables are the same and will work as long as their USB rated compliant. Some may fool you with more expensive coating and materials but its been proven that as long as the cable is compliant it works just as well.

The only difference here is the USB connector type. You must choose the correct connector USB type for your device. Also chargers and USB ports on pc's different in speed and power, its not the cable its the port.

Current PC's and MAC's are USB 2.0 compliant, most new electronics are USB 3.0 now.

No, a MAC is not a PC (Even though PC is short for Personal Computer). You will never be able to update your Marcum using a standard MAC unless Marcum decides to make their units (especially the filesystem onto which you copy the bin file) MAC compatible. Sure, there are some hacks out there that may allow you to boot your MAC to another OS (Linux), but it's just easier to find a buddy with a PC (Running some sort of Windows version) and do the upgrade using their system.
