lichen fox
I can understand that the majority of Z3 hunter's agreeing with APR's of some kind...compared to the area we hunt in NW MN you have double or more than double hunter's per square mile...so competition between hunter's is obviously a factor when you folks decide what type of deer and when you would harvest it given the opportunity. I also think that the majority of comments in support of continuing APR's lean more toward wanting better chances at truely "trophy" antlered deer...I don't see the current APR of 1 - antler with at least 4 points as the best way to achieve that...given, it may produce more 2.5yr old and up bucks to see, but if you really want more B & C and P & Y bucks in the herd...up the anty...add a width-height-antler length minimum of some sort to the APR...while it may make it harder still to field judge whether the buck in you scope is legal, there will probably be alot more really mature bucks eventually in the herd...Up here in NW MN it is very common to see alot of 1.5 year old bucks with at least four points on a side and sometimes as many as 5 per side...yet the racks are 7 or 8 inches inside and the longest points are maybe 3 inches...Just a thought.... Would you shoot 2 of these bucks in a season on my Apr dreamland? I only see one shooter...

Nothing is perfect but all things considered the majority of 1.5 year old bucks do not support 4 and 5 point racks per side. That's not the norm in Z3 or Z1 where I hunt. Some do but I guess it's how you define "very common", it's not the majority. Keep in mind nothing is perfect and many deer never afford you the opportunity to give you a view from all angles to size up spread, etc. Again, nothing is perfect but point restrictions have been adopted by others states outside MN. james_walleye
It's a decieving picture, but that 9 pointer is a 130" deer, and in most hunters eyes, a certain shooter. He is a good notch bigger than the 8 my son is holding the shed off of.
Jameson
Quote: I only see one shooter... The one on the right is offering a decent shot, but with another deer standing behind it better not shoot. Hmmmm, maybe that's the reason for needing 2 buck tags; with a big buck behind every tree it's hard to shoot only one.
