Who's ready for open water?

Recommended Posts

I am! Been buying lots of tackle and getting boat ready for the season. First I have to buy some new skins for the trailer and 3 trolling motor batteries (ouch). Other than that, I am ready for some warmer weather.

Anyone got any goals this year? Mine are 1. Fish more 2. Learn to drop-shot 3. Fish more!

Alagnak, no doubt. This time last year we were getting ready to camp (and fish) as the temps were hittin close to 70. This season we have had the cold and of course today is our first real snow down here. Mo River has some ice coming down, but give me 40's and I am going to be on it. The flood from 2 years ago actually did the river a huge favor and made it closer to what it was "back in the day". The fishing is incredible and whatever you want (minus salmonids)is out there.

Mainbutter, carp on a fly rod has always been a goal of mine too. We got the carp, just need a flyrod.

Yep, this exact w/e last year I brought some friends down to our cabin in Iowa to trout fish. It was around freezing leaving the cities here and like 75 two hours south! We're going down next w/e and doesn't look like we'll be that lucky. Spoiled after last winter :-)

Do you know anything about the stretch of river from Louis and Clark lake up river towards Niobrara State park? I looks like a really cool stretch I wouldn't mind camping on some day.

Thanks

I fish L&C regularly, but haven't been quite that far upriver. My friends tell me it can be pretty challenging, navigation wise. If you look at a google earth map, you will see what they mean. Fishing wise, it is supposed to be top notch the entire distance in the spring months.

That's what I like to hear. Thanks! It's nice when it's just challenging enough to keep most others on the couch. ;-)
