In the market for a new Auger

Jiffy propane. If you do any fishing from a portable this is not the auger for you. Very heavy and if tank is left hooked ip it will leak out. Also has to only sit one way with handle up in air. If any amount of snow gets in tank fitting or hose end auger does not run very well. Easy fix for jiffy is to put a valve in line so tank can be left hooked up.

Not sure on the leaking propane. I left my tank hooked up all summer and she started on the 2nd pull this winter and I am still drilling on the tank from last spring.

i got my brother a propane fired auger for Christmas and that thing is unreal, I did not know what to expect for power but this thing throws ice everywhere. Yes it is heavy but dam what a cutting machine

Bought a Solo 2.5hp/8" Lazer three years ago and have had no issues with anything. I run Amsoil about 80:1 through it. It usually starts on second or third pull and after a few seconds to warm up it will cut ice like no other.

I use it very often and also reopen holes with the Lazer blades better than any chipper I've used. Never have had any problems with the blades getting bad and have even drilled through a few beer cans that were buried under some slush before, and blades still work great. I may have got lucky or this may just be a very good product . But I'll count on this auger for many years it looks like.

The owners manual says that the propane will leak if left hooked up. I know my uncles will empty the tank when not in use.

Mine never leaks I guess i got a good one then. As far as maintenance change the engine oil once a year has been it so far.

I just bought a new strikemaster 2.5 solo lazer magnum on Monday. Put in strikemaster oil and 89 octane at 40:1. Runs great, cuts like a mad man. Will look into amsoil and 80:1 ratio once i burn through this tank.

i am going to test a jiffy propane this next week and see if i like it or not. its my boss auger but im going to take it with the cut spear holes. see what happens.

A friend of mine just bought a propane jiffy, could smell gas coming out of it when not in use everytime I walked past it even when he had it laying tank side up

This is the start of the 3rd season with mine and I haven't had any leaks or problems.
