DIESELDAN
I have the oppertunity to buy a 6800 in good shape for $150 is this a pretty nice house? I usually fish out of my wheelhouse so I probally won't use it a ton but would still like a portable for early or late ice and some harder to axcess lakes. I usually fish with buddies or my kids so I need a fairly large house. The only disadvantage I think this house has is it seems pretty big and fairly heavy. I'm thinking if I buy it I will have to make a sled with skis for transporting. Is this thing going to be way too heavy to pull by hand? If so I do have a 4wheeler and a snowmobile so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Anyone have one or fished out of one of these any comments good or bad would be great. JigginIsLife
i had one, did not like it one bit, way to heavy to be portable, to big to fit into my vehicle at the time, if there is any snow the thing pushes snow like a bull dozer. the floor seemed tobe made out of cheaper plastic unlike the 5600 which i also had. the up side is if you have a sled or wheeler, and a trailer to bring it out with, it would be a sweet set up. it worked really well for a porta jon house up at low
kenlaker
My buddy has one, I've fished out of it quite a few times. It's nice and roomy if you want to have a few guys in it. We've had some good times in there, but as a portable it's not really all that portable. Big and heavy, it goes up and down pretty easy, but we don't usually set it up until we plan on staying in a spot for a while. Good house for having the kids in though, and at that price this seems like a good buy.
laportian
There is a reason you see alot of them up on c list. They are really kind of a pain in the but. I have a frabil cub xl that is one of these suit case style portables. I have not set it up in two winters. I have resorted to sticking it out in the elements. I average two days a week on the ice. I'm up on red 99% of the time and hate having to put it away at the end of the day. It is usually an hour after dark and the wind is almost always blowing and putting it awy sux! It is a pain and would rather freeze than fight with trying to put that darn thing away. I'm actually going to buy a fatfish or a bigfoot this week. I own an otter sled already and I have $250 into the sled alone otherwise I'd buy a flipover. The wife would freak it I bought a flipover with that much already ivested in the sled. So a hub just makes more sense for me and my budget and needs.
PurpleFloyd
I bought the 5600 and have also used the old tent and awning suitcase houses. Personally for me, I like the suitcase over the flipover because you have a floor so if it is wet or slushy your feet stay warmer and when the heater is on your feet aren't in puddles. I built a sled on downhill skis to pull it so that isn't a problem. I would rather have the bigger 6800 but this one was on sale at a good price. The other positive feature is that the doors are no right in front of the holes like they are on a flip so when you want to get in and out you are always dodging poles, holes and sonar. But I don't care as much about popping from one place to another every half hour. If that was the case I would prefer the flips. Not sure if a hub is going to be any easier to set up and take down in the wind and in the dark. I know my hunting blinds aren't and they are not in the wide open of a lake. mrklean
Good house but like they said its big heavy and not the most portable, i know guys that leave them out over night a lot because they are heavy enough to not blow away
TwinkeeDink
agree with all above comments, never see them for sale for <$200, so this would be a good buy.
DIESELDAN
Went to go buy it yesterday and set it up and found one of the zippers was broken so that along with some of your posts I decided to pass on it. What would be a good option for a fairly large portable that isn't too expensive?DieselDan
