If You Could Only Have Two Rifles

For me I would go shopping and find the best gun scope/gun combo I could afford in my price range. I like looking at the red tags to see whats been marked down and see how it feels. Se what guns fit you and then look at the calibers. To me the rifle and scope make more difference to me than if there is a small difference in the calibers ie .270 vs 30.06. My favorite gun in my safe is a steyr-manlicher in .270Win. I bought the gun about 20 yrs ago it had a suggested retail of $1400 and I bought it for $600 brand new. Find a great deal on a great gun, and who cares what anyone else thinks about your gun. On used guns pay attention to what glass is on them and you may find an awsome deal. I have about 15 rifles, but 90% of my shooting is done with two of them .223 and .270win.

Okay....A couple that have not been mentioned and will cover anything in North America........... 284 Winchester and 35 Whelan. The former will take care of most game you are talking about and the Whelan will work well for moose and the larger bears.

we have sat around many of campfires and discussed this over and over, our concensus is that a 12 ga. shotgun is truly all you will need. The rest depends on your hunting ability and in a survival situation there are no such things as size limits or hunting hours. from #8's to slugs, not one animal in North America that can't be hunted and killed effectively with a 12 ga.

.22 and 30-06 because getting more ammo is not a problem no matter what out of the way place I am at.

And everything walking in North America has been killed with a .22 long rifle, though in today's world not recommended or legal. Just the importance of having a weapon you know well and can shoot very accurately.
