anchor man
To make a long story short, I was winterizing my Yamaha F150 and accidently put in 4qrts Yamalube oil and 1qrt lower unit oil. My plan is to wait til Spring and drain everything out and replace with 5.5qrts of Oil like I was supposed to. I'm not planning on running the engine at all before doing this. Is there anything else I need to do to be sure all the lower unit oil is flushed out? Will draining and filling be good enough? Could this cause any issues with the engine? Thanks
boatfixer
You're ok to do as you plan or you could do it now. But do not run the engine, drain it and let it sit for a while making sure its drained. I had a customer fill the motor with all gear lube once. I drained it, filled with the regular 10-30, ran it for a couple minutes then basically did a complete oil/filter change. Never hurt a thing
leech~~
Best thing to have done was change and Shhhh! Don't tell!
bobbymalone
I might drain, change, let it sit, drain, and change again if you want to try to get it all out. And I would do it now, if i could, just so it's done and don't half to worry about it come spring.
harvey lee
Or forget you did it, thast could happen. Better safe than sorry as it would not take that much work to do.I am sure you would be fine till spring as long as you do not forget to change it. CAMAN
If I have an issue with my boat and I need to wait to spring to fix it, I pull the wires off the spark plugs and leave a note under the cover describing the issue. That way if I do forget about it and I try and start the motor it atleast won't start. If you're going to leave it until spring I'd suggest doing the same. anchor man
Thanks all, the only reason I'm leaving it til Spring is because it's up north at the seasonal cabin. No chance I'll forget about doing it. It'll bug me all Winter knowing what a bonehead I was.
