I love the "you don't need to hunt for meat" argument. You're right, most people don't need to hunt for meat these days.

But with cable/satellite TV, the Internet, video games, and a bazillion other distractions, you don't need to hunt for entertainment, a hobby or leisure activity either.

As long as the hunter is going to make use of the animal they shoot, why is one person's standards any better than someone else's? Any buck that gets shot would have had a bigger rack the next year, so let those 10, 12 and 14 point bucks go so I can get my 20 pointer, would ya please?

You nailed it on that one!

I agree with most of the posters except Musky Buck. I know lots of people that count on that venison to help subsidize their grocery bill. Will they starve without it? absolutely not, do you count on it? absolutely.

Musky Buck if I'd ever had deer hunting that great & it changed I'd probably be frustrated too, but man that wasn't realistic! Your reports sound like hunting on a game farm, no I don't think you were on hunting on an ACTUAL game farm. I can't imagine many farmers in that area could have been too happy. If you're seeing 117 deer on a drive around the neighborhood the deer depredation on crops had to be VERY significant. I don't know anybody else that can say they routinely saw multiple bucks over 200 pounds. Maybe in KS or somewhere that has a LOT less hunters & inhabitants then MN, but not in this part of the world. Personally I've seen more large bucks in the last couple of years then I've seen in my life. Some of that is more deer, some of it's more time in the field, & some I think is due to improvement in skill. A large part of it, in my case anyway, is attributable to good old fashioned LUCK.
