Portable SQUARE house vs FLIP over fishing house, in wind?

I have a Clam 5X6 square house that you setup with the poles, is it easy enough to set it up in the wind or would a fish trap/clam scout be better, but one thing im conserend is that the FLIP over houses might lift up the flaps and wind can get in. So i don't know about which one is better in wind, PLEASE HELP!

Flip over houses come with spreader poles to keep them closed, however you can get some wind blowing in from the sides during early ice when there is no snow to put on the skirt. I always put the back of my house into the wind and it's not a big deal.

I have a 4x8 CanvasCraft suitcase. The one thing I really like is that wind doesn't get in because there's a floor. I only ever fished once in a flip-over and it was a bit cold when the wind blew because we didn't have enough snow to do a decent job of banking it.

I have a Canvas Craft The Northlander Sled - single flip over icehouse. The Norpac material does not wind flap like the regular canvas does. I perfer it to the suitcase style houses in the wind for sure! I to put the wind to my back.

you can always drill some extra holes and use the slush to bank in if the snow situation sucks.

Although if it's gonna be bitter cold, be careful with wet slush. that stuff turns into cement. Drill half holes and use the dry stuff smile

And if you are driving out, always use the vehicle as a windbreak.

Owned 3 "suitcase" houses (2 5x6 clams and a Frabill "speed shack") before I finally got a Frabill flip/sled 2 seasons ago. Get a Big Buddy heater and follow the other guys' advice above and you'll never have a problem.

I even fished in my flip for crappies at night two years ago on Chisago when it was -22 below. You just can't beat the mobility.
