Where our new hunting land is, it is located 1/2 mile away from zone 173 which is hunters choice. some people in my party plan plan hunting that zone in some public land and some private land. But everyone that hunting 173 appled for a doe permit in 171. If a person shoots a doe in 173 that apllied for a permit in 171 and did not get it, but then shots a doe in 173 and brings it back to camp what do we do?

Pretty sure you're legal. This is one of the rules with the "bag limits" where there is a lot of abuse I'm sure.

But, as long as the doe is registered in the Hunters Choice zone, you should be good to go.

No way a warden can prove you DIDN'T shoot it in the Hunters Choice zone.

So if I'm reading this correctly your camp is in 171 but people are hunting in nearby zone 173. You are wondering what to do if they legally shot a doe in 173 and tagged it with their main tag per the rules and then brought back to camp in zone 171.

I'm not sure there is anything to do. I am not aware of it being against the rules to transport deer from one zone to another zone (except CWD zones).

Anyone else see an issue? My hunting spot is across the street from another zone as well, one being lottery and the other hunters choice. I just happen to be staying and hunting on the hunters choice side of the street but I'm sure people who live on the lottery side of the street will cross the street to the hunters choice zone if they want to harvest a doe.

Yeah, as long as you're following the rules of the zone your hunting you're fine. We have a similar situation near Rochester with the Chronic Waste disease zone. I hunt two farms, one is on the east side of Hwy 63 which is the regular 3A zone and the season runs from Nov. 3-11 and you are only allowed to hunt by the regular 3A rules.

The other farm is literally across the Hwy to the west and is in zone 601, the Chronic Waste Zone. This season runs the entire month of Nov and has no antler restrictions or bag limits other than one buck. I can hunt both zones/ seasons on my regular firearms license, I just need to abide by the rules of the zone I'm hunting in.

This answer came straight from St Paul.

Your fine, like the other said, shot and register it in the correct zone and bring it back to camp. We use to do this all the time when I lived down south. We shot up noth, resgisterd and brought home after hunitng, same thing. Only difference is you are driving half mile, we drove 4 hours.

You are legal, we ran into this a few years back before they changed the zones around. The warden said to register it as soon as possible. Here is the fastest way...1-888-706-6367 call this number and register it while the other guy is gutting, I did this last year and it worked slick. This way you get to keep your hands clean also.

Yeah, you're good so long as you have the tag for the zone you actually shot it in, if I'm reading you right? But if you shot a doe in the zone where a permit is required and no one in your party afield with you has one, then its illegal. It wouldn't matter if someone hunting a different zone had the permit. They're not afield with you and technically part of your party. Some people compare it to speeding, I compare it to stealing a car. Unfortunately, some people do this and it's all too easy with the phone and online registration system. It's just too hard to catch unless the warden confronts you in the field right afterward.

Sounds like you're good. Have fun!
