Knife Sharpening

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to get my deer knife sharpened professionally this year. I live in Burnsville and am interested in knowing if anyone has any suggestions of places to check. Google turned up The Strop Shop in Burnsville. Does anyone have any experience with them? Cost? Any other suggestions welcomed.

When I've had some of my kitchen knives done, it was between 1-2 dollars an inch. Don't know if it's different for hunting knives, I've always done those myself...

Has anyone had experience with either of these two? I am looking to purchase a better and quicker knife sharpener than crock sticks or the difficult to use Lansky.

Great googly moogly, I just sharpened every knife I own including a beat up 4 in rapala fillet knife. Every sing one of them took hair off my arm. I was making "S" cuts into oieces of paper with very little pressure just the weight of the knife. Absolutely worth the $70 bucks I spent......Even sharpened up my knives of alaska salmon knife that came very sharp, now it is extremely sharp......

I picked up the work sharp last Friday. 70 bucks is a lot for a sharpener but I was sick of fighting with the others I have. So far it seems good. Only knife I'm having troubles getting to shaving sharp is my little Gerber Gator. I don't know if its a different kind of steel or what. I can get it sharp but not scary sharp. My fillet knives are all ready to go now though. The knife that seems to be the sharpest is an old case hunting knife that was my grandpas. I am now scared of that knife. It hasn't had a decent edge on it in years and now its the sharpest I've got.

My wife is a little mad at me right now, I sharpened our steak knives too and she cut her thumb today cutting an apple. The filters here won't let me type what she did in the email but when I got home I took the steak knife to a pizza box, and with no effort at all, I cut through it......in two weeks we are gathering in Iowa for some pheasant hunting and preparing for deer camp, 8 guys are bringing their knives.....
