Transducer float

Anyone ever try using a Vexilar transducer float on a Showdown dual beam transducer?

I love my Showdown but I hate the cheap little arm that hold the transducer. It hasn't broken yet, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time!

I saw a Vexilar foam sleeve at Fleet Farm last night and it looks to me like I could just put that on the cable. My question is will it support the dual beam transducer? It's pretty heavy. I suppose I could just add some additional pipe insulation to float it but I don't want the float to get too bulky in the hole.

Just looking for ideas and what others have done.

Thanks

yep. the wifey has a showdown she HATES that cheap plastic arm thing. So I bought her a vex float for like 5 bucks at FF. Works like a charm.

I'm not sure if she has the single or double beam ducer, but I doubt there is much of a difference weight wise. you get a lot of buoyancy off that float.

5 minutes and you get a reply... don't ya love HSO?

This one is about personal preference. Right now I am using the arm but have used the vex floats before and I'm sure I will again at some point. You might find you need to trim the foam a little bit to get it to sit in the water how you like it...sometimes it wants to flop over given that it was made for the heavier vex transducers.

Great feedback and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you all!

The reason I am interested in the floating option is because it will allow me a little more flexibility with the placement of the flasher. I also seem to struggle getting it out of the way when I'm pulling in fish and I'm hoping the float will solve that as well.

Thanks again for the responses.
