nope... have other plans. idk why some people these days feel that they have to make sure people eat what they shoot. its like they feel that have some personal obligation to make sure that they know people are going to do with their birds. what happened to the good ol days where people werent always so nosey and trying to throw their fellow hunters under the bus by jumping to conclusions.

Because there are some old fashioned people still around who feel that shooting something just to toss it in the mud after you take a couple pictures is low class and wasteful.

I assumed you were not that sort of person and were going to eat what you shot and thought maybe you'd tell us an interesting recipe. We used to cut the breasts into strips, bread 'em and toss 'em in deep fryer. A pile of strips and a mug of beer makes a nice end of days snack.

And if your not old enough to drink beer yet you can have a big Pepsi or diet cola.

well i dont do that and get a little irratated when people question what i do with them. so many people today try to be the hero and catch people in the wrong by insinuating they did something wrong. I am going to get it mounted. i am old enough for a good brewski also! just like last year me and my buddies shot a PILE of mergansers and every one was asking if we were eating them... just bugs me cause i was taught if i kill it i eat it. or get it mounted. and i have always done that. The older generation has to understand that not all young guys are all about killing as many as they can and then wasting them or dumping them so they can shoot more. Were not all a bunch of foiles migrators!

Well now that we got that debate out of the way. Cool looking bird. That photo you really captures the essence of duck hunting.

Missed my Alaska trip this year due to some other travel plans, but I thought about it a lot. Headed back for sure in 2013.

Hey Jim, no haters here. I simply asked if he was going to eat the scoter. Most people do not, but an old pal of mine would soak breasts in milk, cut into strips and deep fry with a light batter. We'd wipe 'em out by the platter at the duck camp.

Incidentally, they are a tough, rugged bird, harder to drop than you think. You gotta nail 'em pretty good with #4s. We had a floating blind (cost us $10K) and I've seen a few thousand in a day....along with a few dozen other species.

Ain't no haters around here-life is to short.

Saw some great flocks of goldeneyes and a few scooters on prince william Saturday. Answered a man overboard call from coast guard. The men were rescued by coast guard and lucky otter outfitters and were very lucky to have made it. severe hypothermia doesnt take long... As always, be careful out there!! Great pic!

    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
    • We went to the flats too. I dipped a tire on the rental car onto it just to say I’ve been there, but it was still pretty soft from winter melt. After seeing some moron in a BMW suv get dragged out of the muck I had no intention of repeating his stupidity.
    • I've been out on the flats. It's like being on a different planet
