No shot, but still...

Well by far my best night on the stand so far!!! I saw 8 doe and two bucks. I had no shot on any of them, but what a great time watching, wondering, hoping and praying that I would get a shot!!! Either way, the two bucks put on a little show for me, and that made the night. I tried the grunt call a few times, they came closer, but still a little to far. Either way, I know they are there and it makes it that much sweeter knowing I have a chance evertime I head out!!!

That sounds like a great night and I whole-heartedly agree with the others. Took the kids out last night in the haybale blind (my first time out this year) and we busted a deer on the way in. Actually my 5 year old girl was the only one who saw it. We only went out for the last 2 hours because they start getting fidgety past that. My son is 8.

We set up bucky jr the buck decoy in the recently cut bean field 20 yards out. And then settled into the blind. We make a lot of noise, the three of us in the blind! With our backpack full of archery gear and snacks and juice boxes. lol. So my plan was to attract one of the bucks that I've seen crossing several hundred yards of bean field from the neighboring farms woods as I've seen them do many evenings.

Nothing until 15 minutes before shooting light ended. My son had fell asleep and we had covered him with the emergency blanket. Then my daughter and I sat poised as crunch, crunch, crunch, through the leaves and dry grass in the woods behind us. It kept growing louder and louder until it was right behind the blinds. And then he stepped out - and into the blind, a field mouse about the size of two cotton balls. My daughter screamed and we packed up and headed out.

Now that was a great night, seriously. They loved it, even though we didn't see anything.

Couldn't help laughing at that ending... grin Last night I had two does come in about 5:30 and one of them brushed against my ladder and walked behind me on the trail I had come in on. No snort. No wheeze. Scent control was excellent.

Tempted to take her when she walked away from me back into the woods, but I was hoping to see one of the two nice bucks on the trail camera pics. Heck, I would have setttled for seeing ANY of the bucks I have on the trail cams from this summer.

Great to be out on a Friday night--even with the kids.

This last weekend I had one of the best Deer watching weekends I have had in years. I seen 15 deer Sat & Sunday on two different stands. Had close 10-15yrd shots at maybe half of them and passed on them all as they were Does and small bucks. Lot's of season left to pick one out for meat if needed! One thing I like to do when I have a Deer close that I know that I am not going to take. Is to see if I can get my bow up and ready for a shot without beening seen. Makes for good practise when the real shot comes! wink
