LMITOUT
Anybody have some insight on this line of rifles from Ruger? I see they will be $340 at Cabelas next week and was curious if they are a decent gun for the price or if they aren't even worth bothering with. Grainbelt
Gunblast.com gives it a good review. Looks like $340 is a good price if you look on gunbroker.com for comparables. It is light weight, has an adjustable weight trigger and 70 degree bolt lift so you don't bang your scope. American made.

I watched that review and I think this will be a gun I will have to purchase soon I like the rotary mag and it looks to be a well built gun would like to see it in action in person and I would like to see it in ..223 or .308 the price is gonna make it that much more pleasing if its as good as the review. LMITOUT
Picked up a .270 today. For the price it's hard to beat, but until some rounds are through it to see how it runs I can't say much more than that. The trigger is adjustable but I don't have a scale to measure what it's set at from the factory, however it is super crisp just dry firing it and feels pretty light. Almost as light as the trigger on my Rock River .223. Maybe even lighter. If you buy one be sure to check inside the box for an offer for a free cheek pad. Whoaru99
Doesn't have the adjustable trigger which would be nice, but my M77 in .270 is a real good shooter. If it's anything like that you should be pretty happy with it. Plain old Remington Core Lokt 130s shoot nicely out of mine.
LMITOUT
I doubt I'll monkey with the trigger. If anything I'd increase the trigger pull from where it's at, but will probably just leave it alone. I have to say that for a budget rifle the trigger feels awfully nice (dry firing so far). The Core Lokt's are probably what I'll go with as well. Dad's been shooting them out of his 25-06 for as long as I can remember and he doesn't have any problems dropping deer and all the meat is good when the smoke clears. No need for exotic bullets, IMO, from what I've seen.
swamptiger
Let us know how it shoots. I've been thinking I might trade off my Marlin XL7 long action for a short action in the Ruger if they turn out to be a good gun. Or just keep the Marlin, and buy a Ruger too.. Decisions, decisions... You will probably like the trigger if you don't have a gun with an Accutrigger style trigger. And the removable magazine is a nice feature the Marlin doesn't have. LMITOUT
Took the American to the range today for the first time. The three round grouping in the photo below is after sighting in a 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster at 50yds off of a bag for a rest shooting 130gr Remington Core Lokt. With the wind today I didn't bother trying anything longer than 50 as my goal today was to just hit paper with the new scope attached. Happy with the grouping. Looking forward to trying it out at a longer distance on a calmer day to gather more data points on this rifle. I monkeyed around with the scope mount on my Rock River Predator Pursuit so that needed to be sighted in as well. I'd say we're looking OK there. These were shot off of a bi-pod and done in somewhat "rapid fire" fashion, spaced about 2 sec apart. Fiocchi 55gr. I love gun range porn. swamptiger
Looks good. I just put a .243 on layaway today. Hoping they will come up with some barrels in the future like in a 6.5. They should be just as easy as a Savage to change barrels.
LMITOUT
Here's an independent review of the Ruger American. He tested a .308. I subscribed to his channel quite a while back and he gives pretty good feedback on various guns, knives, etc and has some different perspectives about what he is reviewing compared to some of the "comp'd" reviewers you see so frequently on the web. He tests a LOT of different firearms so if you're looking at a particular model it might be worth your time to go back into his archives and see if he's tested it. Whether you agree with his results or not is up to you, but it might shed some light on differences between competing brands or drawbacks to that particular model and you can decide from there. K_Josh87
so... sorting through these... figured i'd bump this... I just purchased this in a 22-250... and SO far i would say I am not calling this a "sweet shooter" and in my book a sweet shooter is a gun you can grab a box of bullets, load it up, and it shoots an decent grouping at 100 yds... I now have 220 rounds through it or so... and honestly yes, it is some of the cheapest soft points you can find... and.... it does OKAY... and I am SURE it can do better... but the barrel should be broke in now, so, time to focus on dialing it in... So, just curious what others experiences are... I plan to work up loads in it, so have not tried any higher end bullets in this yet... so, I am not ruling it out, just curious how others feel about there rugar ameriacans... I like my other rugar guns, and have had to send a pistol off the bat, and rugar fixed it and took good care of me... and its a sweet gun... so hoping this thing dials in nicely... Whats everyone elses experiences???
