Coleman Sportcat

Question

Does anyone use one of these heaters to warm their portable fish-house? I would like to know how they perform as I am considering purchasing one. It is the right size for transporting and seems durable. It is only 1,100 BTUs though.

Don't even bother G.... I tried one in my Trap earlier this year. Not enough BTU's. Took it back and got a different heater. Can't think of the name right now, but it works GREAT.

A buddy of mine has one for his 4x8 portable. On a cold day you had better have another heat source or you will be cold. On the days that it is 25 or above it is fine, just right in fact. I would look into one of those buddy heaters. My friend is.

I agree with setterguy, it's perfect for 25 degrees and up, I also have the Procat model which is 3,000 btu and has a built in fan to help circulate the air. Does a great job in my trap.

I have a very small 1 man portable and I'm happy as heck with my SportCat.

When I'm out there I'm usually dressed warm and I don't want to bother shedding layers. The SportCat makes it so I can fish for a couple extra hours comfortably.

If you're one of those guys that likes to shed layers I would recommed something with a bit more power.

The Black cat is 4,000 btus, and it works fine in my Trap II until it gets below zero, providing I can keep the wind out of the slits in the Trap fabric.

The Pro Cat is 3,000.

There's really no point in using a heater smaller than that in a portable, because it just won't cut it.

The Black Cats and such cost $40 to $50. For $65 at Menard's (regular price) I just bought a Dyna-glo, which is almost exactly like the Mr. Heater Buddy. It puts out 8,000 btus instead of the Buddy's 9,000, and it comes with a soft case with side compartments for carrying two extra 1-lb propane cylinders. Works like a charm and, while it's taller than the Cats, it takes up the same amount of floor space.

Guys, you were all right. The Coleman Sportcat doesn't get the job done. My Coleman Northstar lantern gives off more heat. I returned it. Plus the auto igniters on the unit never worked and it was brand new.
