Test baits

How many of you actuallyst a test bait. Cant hunt 100 yrds from it which is silly, like thats gona make a diff. but cant setablish a site before Aug 17th. I always thought if they had a window date like sometime in mid late july but not before Aug. 1st. IDK wats ur thoughts on this. I prefer to scout it out myself, but kinda nice to to get verification too.

I live to far away to mess with that so I have never tried it. Two weeks of baiting is enough for me. Especially when we typically only get to hunt the first 3-5 days.

If I had more time I would probably try putting out some test baits. Just right now to many projects. Plan to do a little scouting in the coming week.

I've been testing my bait for the last couple weeks. These donuts are so good. Gummy bears may not make it to the season. I need baiting to come fast, lose some of this excess weight. If the bears put on what I have I will be in business.

Waste of time. You are testing a bear that has a completely different diet and mentality. Food sources are diverse, seasonal movements have not happened and of course the weather pattern is different pre season then it is during season. I have learned that all test baiting does is give a bunch of bad info and false hopes.

I truly belive the scouting and info that counts happens withion two days of hunting season.

good points, Ive done it once, mid july an got hits right away, had very high expectation for the opener of baitiing an just happen to have a tough baiting opener due to the reasons u mentioned. Went from peing pumped to being deflated real quick, started seconed guessing myself. Shook it off an plugged along an ended up taking a nice bear.

But if a guy can dicipline himself mentally that wat happens now wont happen then, it is cool to see wat might be moving thru the area, pic are cool an it releaves an itch. Hope things go well for ya this year johnny, good luck to all

I thought it was only legal to do test baits once season opened?

Its not bait untill you hunt over it, you have tobe 100 yards or more awya from a test bait site with your established registerd site which is aug 17th this year for establishedment. So before that it probably be considerd garbage by a CO an cite you for littering. So this is probabley a gray subject an I probably shouldnt have brought it up. But its just my couriosity. I know some do but cant seem to find any written laws on it. I keep hearing you can but cant seem to get verification so i guesse that why i brought it. Maybe I should ask is it leagal instead of how many do it.

Part of the problem with test baits is that there is not enough food to keep them in the area very long. So, when you do make it up to check them you may find one that got hit but he maybe long gone because the food ran out and he moved on.
