Basement Remodel questions

Ok i'm remodeling our basement, it really has no water problems but i'm going to paint the block with water proof paint, then put on the pink foil backed insulation that you glue on and then i'll stud the walls and rock it etc, i think i'll go with a drop ceiling, i'm wondering if i'm missing anything thanks

But for the framing it sounds like ya got the bases covered... if your in town, a permit, and a quick chat with the inspector is ALWAYS a good place to start.... build the report with the inspector before you even start, it will pay off in the long run... most of them would rather have you give them a jingle and ask a question, than give you a red tag, or re inspection...

+1....i did a pre inspection with the city and they told me the basics of what what necessary, MUCH EASIER to pass inspection when you use their ideas/recommendations and much friendlier to deal with, especially if u r doing yourself as a homeowner & not a contractor.

You are kinda vague on your description, is it an actual remodel that you are redoing or an unfinished basement you are finishing off, big difference in prep work. I just spent entire spring/early summer doing all framework & electrical myself with all approved last week. Now researching (hopefully) economical soundproofing possiblities then ready for drywall.

I think this subject has been asked a number of times before. And I also think that the 'correct' answer varies with the inspector/city that is involved. I helped my brother with a project 2 years ago and so I was paying attention back then. I don't think the answers were the same from anyone who responded. Check with your local folks.

vapor barrier electrical boxes on outside walls that are only seperated by insulation and the exterior.. if there is cobcrete wall behing the box you can use regular fiberglass boxes. I am an electrician and run into diy ers often.. my advice dont use materials cause its cheap. you will regret it when it comes time to the final product.keep in mind arc fault breakers box fill of wires and make sure it is neat and presentable. inspector does not care about function but rather safety. if u need info you can pm me.

There's no inspectors or anything involved with this, there's really no code where i'm at etc....The vapor barrier is the foil backing of the foam insulation etc..thats code in town anyways in the area i live
