99 ford taurus brakes

Recommended Posts

I'm not a mechanic by far, so here's what happened, and maybe somebody can give me a little insight to what mit have happened, and how much to fix.

the 99 taures has about 140,000 miles on it. never had a major mechanical prob;em. well tonight driving home from st' paul to rochester, I lost the brakes. a couple weeks ago, the brake lights went on. when I got home, I checked the fluid, and added some brake fluid. well tonight, stopped at the light in Cannon Falls and lost all brakes.

any Ideas? a master or a seal, or what... any ideas how much to fix??

I have a 96 taurus had the same issue about a year ago. It was a leak in the brake line.I put the car on some dry pavement filled the master cylinder and pressed the brakes. This showed me where the leak was.Good luck!

If the fluid was low than you just need to do a good old fashion brake inspection. Pull al

L the wheels, pull the drums, and visually check for leaks.

My guess is that a wheel cylinder has been leaking for sometime and either it has failed or one of the rear brake lines finally rusted through.

put fluid in, pump the brakes, and fluid goes down.. has to be a leak somewhere...

any rough rough ideas of what a brake job runs??

11-87 I had the left side brake line replaced last year and that costed me $150 if I remember correctly. I think a lot of it was labor and was thinking that if it happens on the other side it might have to learn how to do it myself.Save some green. smile
