wind driven motion decoys

Anyone use these? I've been thinking about getting one (for a WMA), but most of the reviews say they don't work very well.

I'm especially interested in the ure-a-duck wind duck spinners. But I suppose if the wind ones don't work that well, maybe I should just skip them altogether.

Just looking for opinions.

You know how everyone says the wind blows a lot out west? It's true. If you hunt SD, ND, or western MN the wind seems to blow a lot more and a spinning wing wind-driven decoy isn't a bad idea. A buddy of mine has an air lucky, I might be getting a few for our ND trips.

Just know it takes a good gust to make them look right.

I have one or used to. I had the Air lucky model and they will work alright but the winds gotta be blowning pretty good for it to spin.

Dachise is right right it takes a good gust of wind to them to spin.

Tune them up a bit also by making sure there are no burrs on the plastic and another thing you can do is polish the rod that the wing spins on. I would also use graphite as a dry lubricant. Kinda like when you uild the pinewood derby cars for scouts.

The higher up in the air you can get it the more it will pick up the wind also. We used a 10 ft piece of conduit at times.

This will help alot but the trouble I always seemed to have was that only one wing would spin sometimes amd then the wind would die off and won't spin at all.

I use Goose Magnet kites for goose hunting. I have budies that have driven past our spread and said they look great. I don't know if they come in duck shapes but they don't need much wind to move.

they do make duck magnets IMO. I do not think they work you need 10mph wind or more to make them work good and scares more ducks than atracts.

Work fine for me. Cheap - buy one and have it in the bag of tricks - pretty effective early in the season, but ducks can get smart pretty quick. Hunting on the St Louis River in Duluth/Superior is better without them - seems everyone has them and the ducks figure that out in a hurry. Might be different other places - who knows...

Forgot to mention I've only had luck with puddle ducks - divers seem to stay away - maybe too much movement, IDK, but no where near as effective with them as with mallards, teal, and such.

WIN-DUK all the way man! have more than 1 in the boat at all times!

If you're going to use them I would second the win-duk. They have their time and place for putting a few birds on the water.
