Tonka boy and I did OK Friday - as usual I got follows TB got fish. Almost had one on a figure 8. Which led to TB and I comparing notes. Neither of us has ever caught a musky on a figure 8 and between the two of us we catch more than a few. So here's the question for you guys - what is the success ratio of your figure 8s?? Just curious as we all hear from the pros etc how many times they catch fish on a figure 8 but I bet it is about 1 out of 10 at best that strike during the loop-de-loo boatside water churning. FYI two follows and one caught all on bucktails. Topwaters didn't produce any action for us.

Fished for 5 hours Saturday and had one follow and one hooked and missed fish. Didn't see her though. I'm having a hard time locating fish this year too. Even tried trolling deeper water off the weed edges but with no success. Was a great day Saturday and didn't get buzzed once! Will try and make it out again some time this week for another go at it.

Muskieboy, Most of the fish I have caught or have seen have been in the foil but I have also had action on the outside edge. I'm still learning this game so I try a little bit of everything if I've got the time. I also try to fish"new" spots whether its shoreline, points or reefs, everytime I go out. As far as figure 8s, I have yet to catch a Ski doing one but it sure gets the Adreneline going!

TBone - I think you'll do just fine as a Musky Hunter - Actually, you are on top of the game from the posts I have read from you.

You nailed it on the head - try new spots! One day they will be in the foil, others on the outside. I have not been out in 2 weeks due to a motocycle accident but will head out this weekend. I will tell you most of my success is right on the outside. I find the bigger fish there!
Do not over look the 4 ft of water or less....My largest muskie on Tonka, only 48 1/2, was in 2 feet of water and I lost one last year that was closer to 55" in a spot very similiar....

Keep it up....I love this sport. I learn something new everyday!

Muskies tend to sit on the sand and sun themselves during the day. This is a great time to break out those surface lures for some exciting action. They won't move too far in most cases...at least until they know you're there. Be quiet and make long casts.

As evenings (low light) grow closer, I find myself moving out further and casting/trolling the outside edge or deeper water. They tend to move around more in search of prey. Bucktails and/or Jerkbaits work here, but don't rule out surface baits either.

Trailblazin - I hope you're doing O.K. Theres a reason I don't ride those things, I have a hard enough time with four wheels!I have put alot of time in on the water this year and have learned some on my own, some from reading and some from this forum. One of the things I have not done well with is catching fish inside the weedline. Although I have moved fish and also spooked fish in shallow water I have yet to connect. All of my fish have come from staying in that 15-20' of water and throwing in. I was told there was going to be a 150 boat Ski Tournament on Tonka this weekend. Is it Saturday and Sunday? If anyone has heard about it please let me know, I might have explore some other options.

Correct on the tournament.

Most of my success if in 15-20 feet and casting in too. However, do not overlook those inside spots. I have caught and lost some monsters in 2-4 feet. Just try not to spook them (I know that is hard) and you'll be rewarded.

The motorcycle thing - lost my best friend 8 yrs ago when he crashed his. I swore I would never touch one. I think he was looking was down at me and saying, this is not the way your going too". Will us men ever learn?
