Hey guys I recently have had a wild hair up my butt and wanted to start fishin some muskies! I typically bass fish and love the feel of low profile baitcasters. What would you guys recommend for muskies?

You would love an Abu Revo Toro. I got one at the beginning of the season and wish I would have done so a long time ago. Its so much more comfortable for me than any reel I have tried. Havent had it long enough to say anything about the durability though. Time will tell.

I use the revo toro winch 60 and love it. Can cast a mile which is nice for not spooking the fish. Use it for any type of lure Big/Little bucktails, bulldawgs, jerkbaits, etc. I recommend at least a 7'6 rod for figure 8ing when muskie fishing.. I use an 8' and a 9' rod with my revo's

Also a Toro fan to bad they discontinued the best gear ratio in the 5:4... I carry 4 different gear ratios for reels in the boat all have their own specific bait duty...5:1 to 6:4, all I still need is a reel to burn cowgirls... Although by fall the new Toro Inshore will be avalible in the 5:4 gearing....

If you REALLY want to have fun, try the smallest Revo inshore (substantially smaller than the Toro, which I own a couple of as well). It's mismatched a bit for the long rods I use - but what the heck - I need something that stores line, and casts and retrieves it. That, and a drag that works. Super fun and challenging to land big fish on. And very "user friendly" for the guy with small hands, or in my case, old arthritic hands. My first one lasted me six years, and got me a heck of a lot of big pike and musky all across Minnesota, Ontario and Manitoba. I just replaced it (gears FINALLY burned out as I would expect as this ain't what it's made for) and already have a couple big muskies on it this year.

Hard to go wrong with the Curado 300 too. I have one and like it. Good for small to medium blades, and I "slow roll" big blades with it as large as the supermodel.

Biggest thing you have to do is match the reel to your style of fishing and lures. The little revo I'm talking about is fast, and awesome for burning little bucktails, which I love to do. It helps old or out of shape people to last longer (smile). But use it to burn big blades or throw a big jerkbait or bulldawg, and it's just a matter of time till it's ruined...

Good luck!

Just got the Revo Toro Winch this year. I love it. Low profile, good for pulling big blades. I prefer and like to cast big blades so its good for that. Gear ratio is a little slow for some lures but overall I like it cause I like the double cowgirls.

Packer I got my first toro 3 years ago and have loved it ever since! If your new to the toro here is a cool video to watch.

you can customize the toro's how you want then to assist you within a cast. for windy/calm days for bigger/smaller lures. You can simply unscrew the silver (Pin Like) bar across the reel then twist on the other side of the reel and get at this feature to edit it the way it fits you best. Abu Garcia calls it the "Pitch Centrifugal Break System" This is on of the Top reels on the market.

Anyone ever used an Abu Garcia 7000i series reel? I'm looking for a lower geared reel than my 6500 for cranking in larger baits like bucktails and pounders. I've used a Low Profile Revo Toro Winch and a Calcutta, but those are a bit out of my price range. Any thoughts?

I've got a 7000 c3i on one of my double cowgirl rods and it works fine. Cast's well and pulls them in just fine. My only problem is that it's a bit big for how I hold them, that is I like to palm the reel. If I was one of those guys who holds the rod handle instead I would think it was perfect and doesn't break the bank.

I have the 7000i HSN and its a good reel for the price. It is a little big and I have to hold the handle rather than the reel (which I don't prefer) but it handles larger lures and blades alright

Tranx definitely not low profile- fits the hand ok when palming but nowheres near the Rev Toro for comfort. To me a calcutta 400 feels smaller. Jury is still out on the Tranx for me as I feel the handle is somewhat awkward and have had instances of hand slipping off handle. The PG ratio is perfect for my style of fishing though and maybe I will grow to love it. If you don't put a ton of hours on a reel I would go with the Toro- you can nearly get 2 for the same price as a Tranx... My .02 only...
