flash cameras?

Wondering if anybody has had situations that a flash camera has scared a bear or deer. I have used both IR and flash for years and had many multiple pics of animals very close to flash and return multiple times. I even had bear sleep only a few feet away as it flashed in his face. I like the quality of the flash but don't want to spook them, so just wondered if anybody was confident flash has spooked one or if battery life is the real only benefit of the IR.

I stopped using flash cameras a few years ago. You get three pictures every time. Surprised looking flashy bear, Bear butt leaving town and third picture is bear eyes about 50 yards away looking back.

Ive used flash in the begining an am with jonny on this, ive had bear dissapear from wat i believe is flash fear, some argue it, but my confidence is to high without to risk it. I hate flash dont see why a bear would be much different, waiter flashes a camera at me while im eating at the china buffete, Im gone an going to texas roadhouse. An to solidly answer your Q'.. I am very confident Ive lost a few bear due to flash. I say few cause I quickly switched over, Not trying to offend but why are you very quality consious of the image when really all ya need are the basics of what an wen? granted bear pics are cool an whish i had started a library of sorts an still might an i guesse sometimes i wish things were clearer, but I get what I need then shoot bear. Just curious is all.

Appreciate the feedback, I have had a few pretty cool or big bear I would have printed if wasn't so grainy or blurry. I think the baiting is the most fun part of the process except maybe killing one and the pictures are the best part...I think a deer and bear and a lot of animals eyes are different I have dozens maybe hundreds of pics at night with the animal staring at a flash camera 5' away for 20 pictures multiple days. I've watched deer do it first hand in pitch black... I can't think of any pics where it appeared they were spooked, I'm not saying it doesn't happen or disagreeing I would think it would scare or annoy the hell out of them, for me just seems they don't care. I wondered what others thought or have encountered.

Just a few of the pictures over the years, they at the very least must have less sensativity to the flash... All of these have multiple pictures over hours and seperate days,I just didnt post them all. Just bizarre to me they dont freak out, thought you guys might get a kick out of these. I do think I will get a couple IR's out this year just in case...

Flashes might not bug some; but i noticed once when i changed from a flash cam to a IR. it was over a mineral site. the number of pics from a certain buck increased 10 fold. maybe he needed more mineral in his diet as the summer progressed, or maybe he liked not being blinded every 60seconds

Jonny/boar you ever use the primos cameras? Just debating over the m80 vs primos 60....can't get or find bear box for primos though...I have a primos 46 that i like a lot but m 80 looks good too.

Jay I have a 46 like an have weldedmy own box, so csnt help ya there. but like the custermer service to blew mine out hooking up a 12 volt instead of a 6 volt battery an didnt register the warrenty an all i had to do is get a reciept of purchase an emil it to them an they sent me a new one this spring an its the improved modle at that. hey sent ya a PM..

Well I have bear boxes that fit the moultires stacked to the ceiling so I tend to replace wit cameras of that shape. Lots of really great cameras on the market right now but for bear I'm going stick with basic or should I say cheap as they still rip them off trees, smash the lenses through the holes in the box and of course always some clown wanting to steal equipment.

Jonny how do you attach them to trees? I ussually run a few lag bolts thru the boxs, havent had much truble with that, but lost one last year, pulled it right off the tree like an apple, i know itsout there but havent found it yet.

I actaully just use wood screws. It seams like once they have it off the tree they just bat it around a bit. If it is hard fastened to the tree with solid lag bolts they work it until they get it off the tree and that is when bad stuff happens. Granted it can be a search looking for the camera every now and then but often it can just be re-hung. Lag bolted thjey just bend the heck out of everything.

Thats a good point, like I say I havent had to much trouble with it yet, but my luck could run out soon to.

Why don't you wrap the camera with barbed wire? Seems to me that if the bears got poked by a barb they would leave it alone!

We have exchange sd cards an batteries an that would be a inconvience instead of just simply pulling it outa a steele box, I dont wanna mess with barb wire just to do that. possibley scratchin lens an motion sensor an just damadge to the camera in general.
