what lb braid for me?

i mainly use my bait caster for bass have been using 30lb braid for 3 years. my lure weight adjustment knob is broke so i been getting backlash quite a bit. today it backlashed bad i had to cut out all the line so i need new line. i been with the 30lb braid eqeuvilent to 8lb mono and know that untangling backlash is a pain sometimes. what should i get? 30 again? or im thinkin 40lb braid. i fish from shore i toss t-rigs wacky rigs buzzbaits frogs swimbaits all that stuff on the one baitcaster spooled with 30lb braid for 3 years. im just thinking the 40lb braid has bigger thickness than 30 making for easier untangling backlash... is 100 yards enough and is suffix a good brand? i can get suffix for half the price of other stuff but i only get 100 yards of it

Not to still your post but do a search on this sight for removing backlash.

Tighten down your drag, put your thumb on the spool while pressing hard, turn the handle about five times. Push your release knob for your spool and pull on your line.

I learned this on this sight and have never had to cut out a backlash since.

If you need more than 100 yards to use Suffix put a mono backing on first to take up room on the spool.

In regards to pound test and what brand..........you just opened up a can of worms

i already kno the trick its harder to get out with braid quicker with mono braid likes to bite into spool and wrap up easyer since its memory free as for how much just wondering if 100yrds will fill up the spool and give me enough line to last i have a typical baitcaster not the big circle shaped ones

the thing you need to remember is if you go up to 40lbs braid that is only 10lbs mono eqiv. 100 yards should be enough(depends on the size of the reel you put it on). suffix is a very good brand. all my baitcasters now have suffix on them except for my flathead reel which still has power pro on it. suffix or power pro are my choice when it comes to braided lines. suffix is smoother than power pro.

I'd go lighter rather than heavier for bass. 40lb is overkill, I like 10lb. The rule of thumb I have always used that I learned from my dad, is to buy a line test to the maximum weight of the fish you expect to catch. I wont be catching 20 lb bass, so I use 10 lb. I use 30 lb for pike, I hope to hook up to something 20lb+. The thing with braid is that when kinked (as in a bad knot) it is very weak, but if you tie your knots right braid seems to have a breaking strength almost twice its rated strength.

i went back to 30lb i had power pro but now i have spider wire or watever its called its smoother than power pro from what i saw but no difference in the end

I used power pro for the first time this year and I will probably stick with it for a long time very strong...Hooked into a big sturgeon and my little 10lb test held up for a long time before he finally snapped it.

It's not the fish, it's the habitat and the equipment you need to consider. If you fish bass in heavy cover like milfoil, pads, reeds and rushes, you need heavy line to drag them out of the junk. Baitcasters and 10-lb braid don't work well because the small diameter line digs into the spool under tension, and then it can't unspool when you cast.
