Ultimate Bass & D's Bustin Bass Tournament

Recommended Posts

Looking for information on Ultimate Bass Tournament & D's Bustin Bass Tournament around the Mankato area. Please post any info you have.

Would also appreciate any info on Thursday nighters.

Thanks!

Pretty sure Ultimate Bass is "full" at 20 boats. Don't ask me why they limit it to 20 boats... smaller lakes perhaps?

D's Bustin Bass schedule was changed and is as follows:

June 16th 6:00-2:00 German Lake

June 17th 6:00-2:00 Jefferson Lake

(2-day combined weight)

July 14th 6:30-2:30 Tetonka Lake

August 18th 6:30-2:30 Roberds Lake

September 8th 7:00-3:00 Shields Lake

$50/team

$10 optional big bass

First come first serve, 25 boat max

Yea, don't mix me up with that Pat guy :P My name is Matt.

Has anyone heard of any tournaments picking up where Bob left off with the MABT? Its a shame he couldn't have passed it off to someone else to run.

I was trying to work something out. turns out Howie was working on it at the same time. I think he got something going.

I spoke with him a about a week ago ,cedar and german/jeff I think is all cannon got scrapped , Ultimately I would have liked to start one next spring since I still got the scale from SOUTHER MN BASS TOUR Before it went down the tubes. I was working on putting together some tuesday night events but after looking at it, it got a little tight with the rest of tournaments so I scrapped that plan too.

Sweet is he going to send out something to everyone?

Me and Marty Sexton won team of the year last year so we would have had free entries this year in the MABT frown

Cannon was on fire last week it would have been an awesome tournament.

A permit is required by the state of MN to host a tournament larger than 20 boats. I'm guessing there are fee's involved and i believe other regulations apply which makes it more complicated that the host is intereted in.

I fished a D's tourny a few years ago on Shields. Fun time. I got schooled. laugh

There is still one opening for the Ultimate bass tournements I just found out last night. First one is Sat on Washington. Show up and you might be able to get in for the year. The lake has been off limits since past Sunday however. 5:30 am boat check.

Incorrect. See: http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fishing/tournaments/requirements.html

25 boats and $25/person entry is the max before permit requirements kick in.

Ok so i was close!

Yup, which is why I go back to my comment, why does UB limit to 20 boats?? Plus I am pretty sure their entry fee is over $50/team anyways, so they need to be drawing permits which means they are good for 25+ boats. Most lakes around the area are good for at least 25 boats.

It is just a matter of the lakes in southern mn fish alot more comfortable with less boat .

there is less competition for specific spots. more comradery(SP?)

making it alot more enjoyable. I personaly think 20 Boats is enough but 25 is still ok 30 is getting to be many on these lakes IMO

its more balance of sport vs. money. pay out is still decent with 20 boats and with less bickering about cut-offs and intrusions from other tournament anglers, and poor sportsmanship ect. just a little more laid back.

The UBT has a good following because it is more laid back and most the guys that are in it have fished the circuit for years therefore most are pretty good friends. 20 boats is just about right if you get the right 20 boats in my opinion. Too many think it should be done this way or that way in other circuits. All I know is Gabby does a good job and makes it fun both before during and after the tourney, pay back is fair and you know exactly what it is and it don't change cuz the # of boats stays the same.

It looks like Chris Hauer picked up the Mankato Area Bass Tournament:

Howie's Southern Bass Tournament

June 24th 6-2 Cedar Lake

July 12th ?? German-Jefferson

$200 entry/team

Tuesday is prefishing cut-off and the tournaments are on Sundays.

$1000+ first place even if only 10 boats

Chris Hauer 612-756-1016

He is also putting on a benefit tournament on Shields Lake this fall.

I fished the tournament on Cedar yesterday and I thought Chris did a great job of running a quick and clean tournament. There was a decent turn-out for being a last-minute deal at 12 boats. I know of quite a few other guys who would have fished it if they hadn't already made plans after MABT was cancelled.

When the HSOforum is up I will post it here, unless someone else gets to it first smile

I am curious who thought I was out fishing in my old Champion AFTER the pre-fishing cutoff. I guess someone was out there with binoculars on Friday and told the tournament director they saw an older champion out there and they thought it was me. I knew about the cutoff and wasn't there, and it was a little disconcerting to have someone who clearly didn't have a positive ID bring it up. Anyone who knows me knows I am a by-the-rules kind of guy.

Whoever you are, get to know me and before you make reports like that make sure you know what you are talking about! Its a big deal to accuse someone of cheating.

Chris handled it well and we still fished the tournament with no issues.

I bought the boat a couple weeks ago in IL. Its a 1994 Champion 204 DC with silver fleck and black and red pin-striping. I still have the original IL trailer plates and IL boat reg on the hull and I always tow with a white Toyota Sequoia. Hope this helps next time someone wants to 'ID' me or my boat.
