muskylunkin
I have a saltist for pulling big blades I'm pretty happy with. Looking for a more all around reel. Going to buy it tomorrow, what do you think?
Esox_Magnum
All around easily the TE, IMO winch is to slow for many applications....If you can find a 5:4 Revo thats a good all around reel...
cbrooks
Go with the Calcutta
TrophyEyes
I have both, but the Calcutta hasn't gotten wet yet. I would say that after I broke the Toro (Abu fixed it), I decided to upgrade to something a little more sturdy.
Ridgerunnr
My buddies calcutta been to the shop several times...love my toro winchwill be getting the high speed model for buck tails soon
Vermilion_figure_8
Personal preference. The toro is nice for long hours because of the comfort of the low profile. The TE is a great reel and has been given great reviews by most anglers. I have both the Toro and the TE, both are great reels, and if i had to choose I would flip a coin. Huntin&Fishin
when you guys say "in the shop" do you mean sending it in to Abu or Shimano?
Esox_Magnum
when you guys say "in the shop" do you mean sending it in to Abu or Shimano? Yes my Abu's got to Pure Fishing since they are close, drop off and wait while they fix it... My Shimano's I send off to get repaired... TrophyEyes
For my toro it was $16 to ship it and they fixed my striped spool for free in 3 days. It was great service sending it in. I had previously tried to get it fixed at a local (respectable) shop, but abu wouldn't send the parts. It was cheaper and faster just to send it in. CaptainMusky
I wonder what they would charge me to go through a couple older reels I have. Do they typically fix whats broke and really look them over? I mean, my drags suck and I think they just need a good going through after 15 years of hard use. My ABUs have been pretty tough, except the drags have been troublesome.Bought a Toro last year with the 5.4 gears and I love it so much I may just switch the reel to other rods throughout the day because they are TOUGH to find now. Esox_Magnum
Charge will depend on what needs done, and yes they go through the entire reel... Many times it's about as cheap as a new reel though again depending on what they need...
CaptainMusky
Yeah, if it was going to cost me the price of a new reel I would just go that route because I am not that attached to them anymore. OVerall they work fine, just the freespool buttons dont engage real well sometimes and the drag is troublesome after a long day. And that is after replacing with the carbon discs. These are older Tournament Pro Abus. I like the smaller round reels, but LOVE the Toro, just wish they didnt dump the 5.4 ratio one.
