597ci HD Combo Antenna System

This unit has a internal antenna system which tells me that I will have to mount this outside my electronics locker. I have a 1992 Lund 1775 Pro-V. I know I can buy an external antenna for it but that is a additional $200.00. Do any of you have this unit, or one similar, mounted in a electronics locker?

Gentilemen, this is not a wheel boat. This is a tiller boat. During the first 20 yrs. or so of this model of Lund, there were not many console models in the Pro-V line. So, what I am asking is ---- Am I going to be forced to mount this unit outside of mt electronics locker?

I also have this unit and I have a small tiller boat. Mine is mounted on one of my bench seats. I am confused as to why you would put the sonar inside a locker? How would you see the screen if it is inside a locker? That is not a joke either. I am not familiar with what an electronics locker is.

Yourbest bet to determine if you can get GPS signal is to set it in the locker and power it up. If you don't have signal in 30 mins, you need to mount it on top.

The Lund Pro-V's have a very wide gunnel. As you face forward sitting in the operators seat, there is an extention built from the gunnel 4" into the boat on the left side. There are two small drawers on the bottom near the floor and above the drawers is a 15 degree angled, doored opening. This opening extends to the outside skin of the boat and is hollow from that point underneath the gunnel to the bow of the boat. This is all storage. Maybe cabinet would be a better word than locker. My electronics are mounted in this cabinet which is lockable.

im not an expert by any means but not sure if the "intended" located of the gps related finders would be in a locker/cabinet.....aren't they always installed either on top of a console or in the guage panel? that is where i always see them and hear about them anyway

196 I think you will find that it gets a gps signal if you put it inside the cabinet / locker. However it might not get all the sat signals it could if it were mounted on top.

A friend has an Alumacraft with the same locker and I am pretty sure (but not 100%) he has a finder with a gps built in and it works.

Again if it were me I would hook it up temporarily to power set inside the locker and see what happens. Fatsest way to know for sure one way or the other if it is going to work for you.

This boat is a 1992 Lund Pro-V tiller. Before this year my electronics were a Fl-8 flasher and a 1992 LMS-350A Lowrance Combo Graph and GPS with a external antenna. Both of these units mounted in the lockable cabinet. I can purchase an external antenna for this new Combo Unit, but that is an extra $200.00. That was why I asked the question as I am unfamiliar with the newer Combo Units.

I think it would work. I am guessing lots of guys have this model flush mounted in the console or bow and have it work. If you can see the screen I think that means there's enough room for the GPS to get a signal.

Not sure but I think the internal antteni is on the upper right side, if you can expose that corner it may help.
