Guest
I have a 6 day trip scheduled for Oct. 9-14. The only problem is that I have no clue where to go. Right now I am leaning tword Leech, Vermilion, or Mille Lacs. My next two trips will be on Cass so I am looking for a late season change of scenery, not that I am ruling Cass out. Can anyone give me their opinion on which lake to hit and why is it better than the others mentioned? Thanks in advance.
MT Net
Can't beat Vermilion for the fish and scenery. But then, I'm biased. Leech would be a great bet, lots of weed beds to work.
Giant_Jackpot
Vermillion would be your only choice. Nuff said.
Fish-n-Freak
You have narrowed it down to some of the best Muskie water in the country! You can't go wrong with any of the four choices. I am going to be on Vermilion, I used to go to Leech every October and boated a 50"+ fish three years in a row -- Mille Lacs has RECORD fish potential, but is more open to wind. Cass, Leech and Vermilion all offer you the chance to get out of the wind. And they also hold the potential of BIG fish.Good Luck -- We are heading into PIG season! kslipsinker
Rainey river in October is some great walleye fishing. The river is pretty low right now, so that may have some affect on the navigation.
Down to Earth
I know the Vermilion Dam Lodge is having a musky outing during the time you mentioned. You might want to check in to that. I was planning to go, but just recently had to pull out. I'm hoping to go next year though. It is a great time for fishing, food and sharing of knowledge from what I heard. Hopefully someone who went last year can give you some info on it. Steve??Andy
Fish-n-Freak
Andy is right, I will be at Vermilion Dam Lodge from the 9th - 12th (thurs - sun)Ed at the lodge set this up last year, and is doing it again. I think he still has openings.Larry Ramsell (Hall of Famer) and a few of the local guides all share their knowledge of how and where to find fish. It costs 490.00 and that includes your lodging, food and drink for the weekend. Last year we all got more than we could eat in two weeks and everyone got to fish with a guide for atleast one day if not two. The weather was as bad as it could be, but everyone caught fish. We had 35mph+ winds and freezing temps. It sounds like most of last years people are coming back, with a few new ones. Larry Ramsell was a pleasure to talk to and I even got to share a cabin with him, he is a very down to earth man, and willing to share a lot of his knowledge. He also put on a slide show and lecture about the history of BIG MUSKIES and we all learned a lot about those huge fish of the past. Not sure what the weather will do this year, but the fishing, food and the company should be great. Ed is a great host!Ed 800-325-5780 or check out www.vdl.comTell'em Steve sent ya
redhooks
Hey Jeff M-That weekend is the full moon and millelacs should be prime time for trolling cranks over the reefs for both big eyes and skis feeding on tullies. something to think about...tightlines!redhooks
Fish-n-Freak
One more thing -- You might want to scratch Cass off your list also. They are holding the PMTT Championship there that weekend. Might be a hard bite if they are there all week pre-fishing and then spend the weekend zipping around the lake.I would focus on either Leech or Vermilion, both can hold HUGE fish and they do offer you the chance to get out of the wind to some degree.Where ever you go -- Good Luck!Steve
