Product to keep rod locker dry?

I have a fully carpeted rod box on my boat. it does not leak water around the lid seat. It does trap all the moisture from my line and what not though. And If it isn't propped open you can tell it gets condensation in there. It rusts hooks and has rusted bearings on one of my older reels. Does anyone have anything they put in there compartments to combat moisture?

The best thing is to prop all compartments open when its in the garage between trips. Desiccants can't keep up with the moisture from wet reels and condensation from the hull versus outside air. Plus you have to dry them in between trips in your oven.

I wish I could prop the locker open and let it air out. I unfortunately have to keep my boat covered in the driveway, so the compartment needs to be locked. I'll probably just start taking the rods out at nite. It just a hassle when your tired and its late at nite. I knew about the big silica packets I just didnt think that would be enough.

WOuld you feel comfortable installing a stainless steel vent or two in the side of the rod locker? Probably your best solution if you need to keep it locked.

You can also do a search for "Goldenrod Dehumidifiers". They were originally designed for gun safes, but are also suitable for use in boats. They are a rod that heats up and circulates warm air inside the compartment. They do seem to use a lot of electricity though.

Those vents look like a good solution if your gears is locked in boat storage. Remember it will make no difference if you don't have a vented cover as it will trap any moisture vapor if its not vented. Everything must be dry before you keep cover on.
