FORREST CITY, Ark. — A Forrest City man has lost his claim to the state record largemouth bass after wildlife officers say he didn't have a valid fishing license when he hooked the lunker.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said Friday that records showed Paul Crowder bought a fishing license on Feb. 28, three hours after he caught the 16 pound, 5 ounce fish on Lake Dunn near Wynne.

Crowder is cited for fishing without a license, which carries a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine and 30 days in jail. He has a March 19 hearing in Wynne District Court.

The Game and Fish Commission says any record fish must be legally caught. Everyone 16 or older needs a license to fish in Arkansas.

A listed number couldn't be found for Crowder.
