jasonmichalski
I was tired of bending to clean out the spear hole and scooping till my arm hurt, so I made the super scoop on Friday night. Its also a good pike thumper and snow shovel to bury them so they don't freeze. What are you guys using to clean out your holes besides a ice saw. MJ1657
I use a large frying pan drilled full of holes. Some of the high rollers on here use the big minnow scoops like the bait shops have.
jasonmichalski
That was made from rebar and a old alumnium pot I found in the woods and drilled full of holes. Great minds think alike.

jasonmichalski
Holy Cr@p. Looks like it should work well. Does the wife know it's gone yet? My Dad said the same thing, after he asked if I was making pasta for lunch in the darkhouse. It was a free woods find. I got to clean up the woods and it works great. Gordie
I usea big minnow net and I have also used a aluminum scoop shovel with holes drilled in it they work great but the Minnow net is probably the best I have ever used.I even got to try out one of those fancy dancy lazor cut ones for spearing but I realy didnt think it was the greatest a bit heavy and just to bulky
jasonmichalski
I may have to try the bait net next year it woud be easier to pack in the sled box.
Spike76
The lazer cut one works great before you move the house over the hole. The floor gets too wet if your house is in place when you clean the hole. A friend took a deep frying pan with the holes in it and riveted a longer handle on it ,it works great inside the house so you can scoop it in a bucket. Is it spearing season yet? You can spesr here tilL March 15th if you can get though the 1 1/2' of water on the ice because of the 3' of snow we got in the last week. Gordie
We got lucky this year with the snow holding off until spearing was over for the most part.
Spike76
I was lucky with the ice also. Had 19 inches of ice when I made my last spear hole on Feb. 25. Speared 2 at 26 inches and one at 25 inches and took house off and called it a good season. My wife thought I was mean going up to Brainerd every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday since the middle of December. Now she thinks I should stay home and do some work. The super scoop was Bass Lake.
