Dove hunting in Mexico and South America

Recommended Posts

I had a friend that went to Mexico about 10 years ago he had a blast. Would he do it now noway he said. With the current drug unrest etc. He had troubles with licensing and paid twice as the local Policia said his license was no good and had to pay him directly. Otherwise he said it was great. You cannot bring guns or ammo into Mexico so he had to rent 1100 from the guides.lots of birds good food great people. He said everyone was grateful to get the birds they shot every day. None are wasted. He wants to go to Argentina next time as it is friendlier. I think an Argentine Duck/Dove hunt is a bucket list item.

Start filling your piggy bank. $6-900/day after you you get there. Make sure shells are included in the cost. I know one party that went down there and got caught up in the craze to get one of the hats the lodge gave out for shooting 1000 doves in a day. They hadn't budgeted for 6 cases of shells at almost $15/box. Oops. Hearing stories of Uruguay and Paraguay having spectacular hunts too. More affordable but probably a wash when you figure higher travel costs. Cuba reportedly is a hidden gem for ducks if you can be one of the first if/when it opens to US citizens.

I live in Argentina right now and got back from a Dove/Duck and Perdiz hunt on 5/11/2012 and it was a hunt of a life time. The dove are not even in the high season at this time and I still managed to shoot over 73 boxes of shells in 3 evening hunt. The duck was a touch slow due to very warm weather but was still fantastic and I got my limit every day very easy. The has to be seen to be believed. I don't know if you can name lodges so if you P.M. I can fill you in. Fantastic trip for sure, well worth the money if you like to shoot.
