How would you set up in dead trees?

Going to be fishing along a shore line with dead trees in 12 feet of water... Would you want to be right in amongst the trees with a chance of drilling your holes, looking down only to see dead falls laying on the bottom of the lake and probably get snagged on, or set up on the outer edge of the dead trees? Going to be targeting walleyes with a few crappies mixed in as well

I think out in Devils Lake in some spots they do it a lot. If it's been warm watch out about getting to close to the ones sticking out of the water as they warm up in the sun and the ice can be thin around them! eek

For crappies I like to fish on top of the trees and walleyes on the edges. Only because bigger walleyes can get ya tangled in the wood easier than a crappie and crappies will sespend over the trees where eyes seem to like to be down in the thick of them. I have 1 area I like to set up my tip ups right on the edge of a tree/weed line for the eyes at dusk/night.
