ABS Light 2007 Suburban

Recommended Posts

I took my Suburban into my usual repair shop to have the rear shocks and rear brakes replaced on my 2007 Suburban.

The shop noted after the work was complete that the ABS lights were on and wouldn't go out, and have been unsuccessful in getting it cleared or resolved. I'm going to find out which codes it's throwing, but rear RH and LH speed sensor and transmission codes were referenced which is odd considering everything was fine before.

Per the tech, "they've heard" of this happening when the battery gets pulled all the way to dead (which evidently happened during the brake job due to them leaving the key on most of the day) on the GMT900 vehicles and I just need to drive it for a while to resolve it.

I'm having a hard time buying this.. but was wondering if anyone knows anything about this?

Thanks!

The shop conveniently didn't write them down per my request. I'm headed there tonight to get them.

The next question is am I on the hook for this issue? If it's found to be a low voltage error code in the ABS controller, or something related to the battery running down / damage to the wheel speed sensors due to the shock / brake repair?

It could entirely be a coincidence that this happened when it did.. but I'm kind of thinking that's not the case.

Since its both rears, that's where they were working and that's when it happened, I'd suspect that they either knocked a connector loose or inadvertently pinched or damaged the harness.

I've seen strange things happen when a battery goes dead, but it seems pretty coincidental that it would be rear speeds sensors when that is the area they serviced. Also the ABS system does a self test every time you start the vehicle, so if it stays on after the self test then its a "hard fault" and it wont go away by driving it.

Thanks for the feedback.. I agree on the point that driving it won't hlep it... when I got the codes I had him switch to the monitor mode where we confirmed that the rear speed sensors weren't reporting movement when we were moving... confirming the code.
