hockeybc69
My neighbor mentioned the other day that they have Magic Jack and how cheap it was and such.I looked at the HSOforum and of course I see all the convincing advertisements for it....Anyone have it? thoughts about it?I am sick of paying $50 a month for land line. so very curious if this is a valid option. Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Check out the online reviews. My conclusion is both yes and no depending on your expectations, though I haven't tried it myself.
hockeybc69
I checked the online reviews and it left me very undecided.... I think the lack of respsonses may answer my question about it.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
What does your neighbor think of it?
harvey lee
I looked at switching to MJ but with media com, I have very cheap phone service now so I decided to stay with the provider I have.A few years ago I checked into MJ and I noticed that many were not happy with something but I do not remember but it was enough of a concern for me to say no to it. That issue could have been resolved by now though. It is cheap if it works great. For the $29 it cost me for high spped internet and unlimited phone calls a month, no need to switch the phone over. I believe $10 of that monthly cost is for the land line.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
We had Vonage until we recently switched to a bundled deal with Comcast. Vonage is very good and pretty reasonable in price. I still use it for my business. Voice mails get forward as emails to you also which is very handy.
hockeybc69
The neighbor seems to like it. He got his a couple years ago, and it looks like there is some newer stuff available that he didnt have any knowledge about. But he did have to change phone numbers, so that I dont like. They advertise that you can keep your current number, so hopefully over time they have been able to change soemthing so that nobody has to change. He plugs his into a computer, and runs to a single phone base, and has several phones to work from that home base. I dont have a home base phone. I have 7 phones of all different brands and styles. So we arent talking an apples to apples comparison with what he has and what I have. toughguy
Magic Jack works great as long as your broadband connection is working. We'll all be paying next to nothing for Long Distance calls within 5-10 years. The whole structure of how LD calls are billed and carriers pay each other was reformed by the FCC a few moths ago. All Voice will be an app over your broadband connection and everything will be VoIP whether you know it or not. So bottom line is Broadband prices will be going up and voice prices will be going away or gone all together.
