Casting Soreness

Recommended Posts

Few weeks ago I was talking with a buddy about making a custom rod and what we would want on there...we got off topic a bit and started talking about other things, I'm not sure about all of you but I know the side of my ribs are kinda sore the next day from the handle of the rod pushing against them when reeling in cowgirls and jerking plastics...

Is there anything out there (Like an under armour shirt) that has padding on the side to help out? It's not a horrible pain or anything just annoying that it's always there...do any of you experience this? what have you done to prevent it?

Like Esox, i use long handle rods so i don't have that problem.( i've even gone as far as extending the handle on one so it would stick past my body some)

On the flip side; I watched a Shaw Grizby show where he had some sort of a padded ball that slid on the end of his rod to protect his ribs.

I was informed!!!!!! That if nothing else i WOULD be getting some of the ones from Cabelas. The Mrs. has that problem, and so do the grand kids! grin

Most full cork rods will float. My dad sent one overboard last season: and it didn't have a ton of cork but it still was floating. The end was only sticking out of the water by about an inch, but I was easily able to retrieve it. I suppose thing might be different for the guys throwing pounders or who stick a 20 ounce saltwater reel on their rod.

It's interesting, but my experience with the "floatablility" of rods is different than most here are reporting- every last one of them that my kids and nephews have thrown in have sunk. Most have sunk faster than a stinkin' cement block! One lesson I learned is to have kids throw baits that float! When the road sinks to the bottom, the lure floats to the top and the whole rig can be retrieved...
