starting out ?

Recommended Posts

I want to try my hand at coyote hunting. I got one on a trail cam last night at my place. I have a 12 with buckshot and slugs...which is better? I also will look at calls, going to start with just a mouth call....what type should I look at? Any other hints or advice? Just want to give it a shot, not throw a bunch of money into it.

Thanks

You can use lights with the scatter gun in this state after Jan 1 through the 31st ? of march I believe. I have picked up a fox pro skyote mouth call and it has been an easy call to blow and sounds good. 15 bucks at scheels. If you by chance have deer stands or such, and hear them frequently maybe try to wait till you hear them, and try them at sun up or sun set... Wind is key... Always try to keep the wind to your face. Good luck!

You could also get some skinned carcasses from someone who traps possibly if you know anyone. Bait piles are very successful, I haven't had the best luck this year yet on mine, however they are not having a tough time finding food, or expending much energy staying warm this year to need to eat much, so, once it cools down and start to snow, or breeding season fires up, they should get hungry. Good luck! Remember to get a tag for a road killed deer, its a fairly painless process, sometimes state patrol will even mail them out to you and give you the tag number over the phone now that gun season is over.
