"Weird" Foods You Never Thought You Would Like?

Recommended Posts

Interesting likes! Lots of stuff like pickled fish and brussel sprouts I never thought I'd like either - til I got older!

One other I thought of is goat. It is good eats. I had some on a work trip to Portugal and it was one of the house specialties at one restaurant. No one else from work would try it but the restaurant had slow cooked it and it tasted similar to a good pulled pork. Afterward, I learned a lot of other cultures eat goat regularly and one of my co-workers Dad's has a goat farm in Florida where he exports most of his stock to the middle east and Africa. My neighbor was considering raising some goats for slaugher in addition to his "pet" goats. I'm not sure my kids would allow me to purchase any though if they knew their "friends" were for dinner!

Many years ago my brother used to raise goats, called the first one 'Agent Orange', used to keep a couple around for weed and grass control, had a young one that was kind of spacey, he decided to have a keg party, with a goat roast as the main attraction. I got to do the deed with a shotgun and slug, we butchered it out, threw it on a hog roaster, it turned out great!!! Wasn't much left after the party, of course there was a lot of beer involved too.

Also sat in a tent in Tangiers, Morocco (I was in the Navy) and had goat. Wasn't bad there either. I'd eat goat again.

I had to resurrect this thread because today I made the corncob jelly recipe I posted in the thread, and realized I had a mistake in the recipe. It should be two quarts of water, not three pints. Sorry about that....
