CV boot repair?

I was doing a wheel barring on my 03 Silverado. Everything was rusted a seized NOT FUN lots of heat and pounding. any way I got it apart and in the process I nicked up the drive axel threads. UHG got those cleaned up the best I could. Got everything back together, tight and to spec. The drive axel threads are shot though.

Now the Fun begins in the process of getting everything back together I must have nicked the boot and tore 2 small holes.

If I pull the drive axel nut off I am buying a new drive axel... what are my options of repairing this with a silicone or tire patch....?

Thats what I was thinking, do you know if I will need a boot streacher or do I have to pull the whole drive shaft off?

I am hopping I can get the axel nut off and back on.... fingers crossed

Since the threads are bad, and the boot is torn, I would just call around and find a new rebuilt axle.

$50 for a reman drive axe. Its almost not worth rebooting. Not to mention the cost of a couple of tools that will make rebooting a lot easier.

since it is your own rig, I would clean the boot real good and dab some high temp black silicone on the holes, let it dry good, then just watch over it. if the grease still comes out what have you lost???

Never thought of going the reman option as the dealer wanted $$$$$ for a new drive axel $60 out the door and less tools I like it. THX

I have thought about the bandaid fix approach. but this is a family vehicle and winter I really hate the Idea of them getting standed because I cheaped out.

Once again you guys came through. Bought a reman drive axel and it was installed in under an hour thanks!

I could not belive the mess that was made in the wheel well in just 10 miles of driving with a small tear in the boot.
