I aint asking for the hotspot I am looking for just about any lake with 5 or so inches of ice that is as far south in MN as I can get.

Anyone?

I have a friend coming from southern IA (who is a MN resident) and he has some $$$ issues and is looking to drive as few miles as possible. We are just looking to get ice time ... don't care if we catch much of anything.

Mostly looking to stay south... for his sake with the gas funds. I know with the weather we have had... this is going to be a tough order.

My question is why risk it? Most we had around here was 3-6 inches, and we had A LOT of rain and in the 40's yesterday. The lakes looked black yesterday, more like a spring thaw, I wouldnt even venture out. It can't be any better further south you go. But to each there own. Have him come up in a couple weeks is my advice.

We were near Cambridge last weekend. Never cut through much more than 5. CO at the public access told us we were within 20 yards of open water the day before. Obviously we knew that, but point is...after this rain/warm up...I, for one, ain't going near it this weekend. (unless someone posts a "bite-on!" ....then, maybe!?)

Meet him in Albert Lea, and car pool to LOTW. you'll save a bunch!
